Dharmanagar, Tripura, 31st of March 2026 : Ahead of the upcoming 56-Dharmanagar by-election, a special voting initiative titled “Vote from Home” has commenced. As per the guidelines of the Election Commission, this unique process began on Tuesday, March 31, enabling voters aged 85 and above, as well as physically challenged individuals, to cast their votes from the comfort of their homes.This special arrangement has been introduced to ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the democratic process.

According to administrative sources, a total of 116 voters aged above 85 and 69 differently-abled voters in the Dharmanagar constituency are covered under this facility. Altogether, votes of 185 individuals will be collected through this method.From Tuesday morning, trained election officials, under strict security arrangements, started visiting the homes of designated voters carrying ballot boxes. Voting is being conducted with complete secrecy to safeguard the voters’ choices. The entire process is being recorded through videography, and representatives of recognized political parties are present during the voting to ensure transparency.
The administration has stated that the special voting process is expected to be completed within the next three days. Election teams will visit different areas each day as per a pre-determined schedule to collect votes.Many elderly and ailing voters have expressed satisfaction with this initiative. They noted that due to health issues or mobility constraints, it was previously difficult for them to visit polling stations. This time, however, they are pleased to exercise their voting rights from home.
Political observers believe that the Election Commission’s “Vote from Home” initiative has made the democratic process more inclusive. As a result, this effort is being seen as a significant step in the Dharmanagar by-election.
