Agartala, Tripura, 25th of February, 2026 : In a significant effort to nurture literary talent among the youths, the Department of Kokborok of Government Degree College, Khumulwng has organized a one-day workshop over Modern Kokborok Poetry, Drama and Fiction on 25th February 2026. The event aimed to provide a platform for aspiring writers to engage with contemporary literary forms in their native language.The workshop was sponsored by the Directorate of Kokborok and Other Minority Languages, Government of Tripura, Agartala. It was spearheaded by Sri Rabindra Debbarma, Head of Department In-Charge, along with departmental faculty members Sri Suman Debbarma and Smt. Soma Debbarma, and saw enthusiastic participation from the students.

The day-long session was enriched by the presence of two eminent figures in Kokborok literature, Sri Nanda Kumar Debbarma and Sri Bikashroy Debbarma, who served as the resource persons. They delved into the nuances of modern poetry, drama, and fiction, guiding students on techniques, themes, and expressions relevant to the contemporary world. The workshop was successfully conducted as a platform for expression, encouraging the youths creative minds of the college to explore and refine their literary skills.
The inaugural session featured insightful addresses from the college’s dignitaries. Dr. Bhupendra Debbarma, the Principal In-Charge, motivated students to overcome their inhibitions and start writing. “It is through trial and error that we learn,” Dr. Debbarma stated, emphasizing the importance of making attempts at literary creation in Kokborok, whether in poetry, drama, or fiction. Dr. Jacob Halam, the IQAC Coordinator, highlighted the critical role of such initiatives in language development. He shared his views on the necessity of literary workshops to enrich any language, and particularly stressed their importance for the growth and standardization of the Kokborok subject.

Adding to the sentiment, Sri Pradip Debbarma spoke about the journey of the Kokborok language. He acknowledged the contributions of like-minded senior writers who have brought the language to its current stature and called upon the younger generation to carry the torch forward. “The younger generation should take up the work to bring more development to Kokborok in the field of literature,” he urged in his speech. By focusing specifically on the genres of modem poetry, drama, and fiction, the workshop provided a skill-based learning experience. Organizers and speakers alike expressed hope that such focused, skill-based initiatives would ensure the continuous evolution and enrichment of Kokborok literature, preparing it to engage with.
