People Want Change”: CPM Candidate Amitabh Dutta In Dharmanagar By-Election.

Dharmanagar, Tripura, 10th of March, 2026 : Political excitement is gradually intensifying around the upcoming by-election in the 56 Dharmanagar Assembly constituency. Putting an end to prolonged speculation, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has finally announced its candidate. On Monday, the state committee of Communist Party of India (Marxist) officially declared that senior leader and member of the party’s state secretariat, Amitabh Dutta, will contest the Dharmanagar by-election as the party’s candidate. The party also announced several candidates for the upcoming ADC Village elections.Following the announcement, a renewed buzz has emerged in the political arena of Dharmanagar. According to party leaders, Dutta was chosen because he is an experienced and widely accepted face. Having been actively associated with party organization and mass movements for many years, he is well known across the Dharmanagar subdivision and various parts of North Tripura, the party claims.

Speaking in an interview after the announcement, Amitabh Dutta said that the people of Dharmanagar are currently facing several problems. He alleged that misleading propaganda and anti-people policies of the Bharatiya Janata Party have put common people in a difficult situation.“People in Dharmanagar now want change. There is growing anger and dissatisfaction among the people. That is why people are once again looking towards the CPI(M),” he said.Dutta further alleged that in recent times many local traders in Dharmanagar have fallen victim to extortion and illegal demands. He promised that his party would ensure relief for business owners from such harassment. “When we were in power, we tried to protect the interests of ordinary people. If people give us the opportunity again, we will ensure a safe environment for traders and take strict action against extortion,” he added.He also said that the party has clear plans regarding roads and infrastructure in both urban and rural areas of Dharmanagar, employment generation, support for small businesses, and the future of the youth. According to him, the election campaign will focus primarily on the day-to-day problems faced by the public.Following the announcement of the candidate, the party has already begun strengthening its organizational structure. Booth-level meetings, public outreach programmes and campaign activities are expected to begin soon. Plans are also being made to reach out to people in every locality of Dharmanagar along with party workers and supporters.Political observers believe that the political temperature surrounding the Dharmanagar by-election may rise further in the coming days. With the CPI(M) fielding an experienced leader like Amitabh Dutta, the contest is expected to become more intense. Attention now turns to the candidate announcements from the BJP and the Congress. Once all parties declare their candidates, it will be interesting to see whom the voters of Dharmanagar ultimately choose in the upcoming by-election.
