Dharmanagar, Tripura, 10th of March, 2026 : A vibrant cultural atmosphere is set to return to Dharmanagar as the much-awaited 11th Bishwabandhu Sen Memorial Natya Mancha Theatre Festival begins on March 11. The five-day festival, organised by Learners Educational Society, will continue until March 15 at Ardhendu Bhattacharya Smriti Bhavan in Dharmanagar, North Tripura.Announcing the event at a press conference, the organisers said that theatre groups from across Tripura and other states will participate in the festival, presenting a variety of stage performances each evening. The festival aims to promote theatre as a medium for social awareness, human values and cultural expression under the theme, “From theatre comes humanity, from theatre comes freedom of the stage.”

The inaugural ceremony will take place on March 11 at 6:00 PM, where distinguished personalities from the theatre world will be present. On this occasion, the Natya Mancha Natya Pratibha Samman will be conferred upon noted theatre personalities Seema Das and Amarjit Sarkar for their contributions to the field of theatre.The opening day will also feature the staging of the play “Andhokar Majhe Dekha Hoyechhilo”, written and directed by Sankalpita Basu and produced by Madhyomoni Nrityabitan, West Bengal.On the second day, audiences will witness the play “Emon Jodi Hoto”, written by Monideep Das and directed by Srishti Das, followed by another engaging production titled “Othello Returns.”The third day of the festival will present a special attraction — the full-length dance drama “Bisarjan” by Rabindranath Tagore.
On the fourth day, theatre lovers will enjoy the plays “Andhokarer Garjan” and “Ghore Fera.”The festival will conclude on the fifth day with a stage adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s famous work “Noukadubi.”Alongside the theatre performances, a fair titled “Ek Tukro Santiniketan” will begin daily from 3:00 PM during the festival. The fair will showcase handicrafts brought by artisans from Bolpur Santiniketan, including handwoven sarees, Punjabi and kurta garments, Dokra artworks, bags and various traditional crafts. Cultural programmes featuring folk dance and Dhamail dance will also be held every evening at the fairground.
According to the organisers, the festival is expected to enrich Dharmanagar’s cultural environment and bring together artists and theatre enthusiasts from different regions. They have warmly invited theatre lovers and the general public to attend and be part of this unique cultural celebration.
