Dharmanagar, Tripura, 14th of March, 2026 : Allegations that a house, road and shop foundations were built by encroaching on the land of the historic town Eidgah located on DNV Road in Dharmanagar have been strongly denied by Amitabha Dutta, a member of the state secretariat of Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Left Front–nominated candidate for the by-election to the 56-Dharmanagar Assembly constituency. He described the allegation as completely baseless and politically motivated.Dutta made the statement during a press conference held on Saturday, March 14 at 3 p.m. at the CPI(M) Dharmanagar Sub -Divisional Party Office. Also present at the press meet were CPI(M) Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Secretary Ratan Roy, North District Secretary Abhijit Dey, along with several other party leaders. It is reported that Jahar Uddin, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, made a post on Facebook on March 12 claiming that Amitabha Dutta had encroached on the Eidgah land in Dharmanagar to construct a house, road and shop foundations. The post triggered considerable discussion and controversy in political circles. In response to the allegation, the press conference was organized on Saturday. Rejecting the claim, Amitabha Dutta said, “Such allegations are completely false and based on incorrect information. There is nothing behind them except political motives.”

He further stated that when the matter was discussed with the Dharmanagar Eidgah Committee, the committee clearly informed that they had received no such complaint and that the allegation of land encroachment was not true.Left leaders at the press conference alleged that the misinformation was being spread on social media deliberately to create confusion among the public ahead of the upcoming by-election. According to them, the campaign was planned to mislead voters before the polls.Amitabha Dutta also warned that if Jahar Uddin does not publicly admit within seven days—through a statement on his Facebook account—that the post was completely false and pledge not to spread such mis information in the future, he will take legal action by filing a defamation case.He added that the false post on social media had damaged his personal reputation and hurt his dignity. At the same time, he appealed to everyone to act responsibly while sharing information on social media.
