Dharmanagar, Tripura, 18th of March, 2026 : A sudden and intense storm accompanied by heavy hailstorm struck Dharmanagar subdivision in North Tripura on Wednesday evening, leading to widespread damage across the region. The severity of the storm was such that normal life came to a standstill within minutes. Preliminary reports indicate extensive damage to houses, shops, and crops in the town and nearby densely populated areas.According to local sources, dark clouds gathered rapidly in the evening, followed by strong gusty winds within a short span of time. The situation worsened as large hailstones began to fall, creating panic among residents.

Many people were forced to rush to safer places to protect themselves.The powerful storm blew away tin roofs of several houses, while uprooted trees blocked roads, disrupting movement. In various parts of Dharmanagar town, falling trees damaged electric lines, leading to power outages. Residents fear that several areas may remain without electricity for some time.In addition, mobile and internet services were also disrupted due to the storm. The local market area suffered significant losses, as several shops were damaged and essential goods were destroyed, leaving traders worried.

The agricultural sector is also expected to be adversely affected. Farmers have expressed concern over potential heavy losses, particularly in vegetable and fruit cultivation.Some vehicles on the roads were also damaged during the storm. However, as of now, no major casualties have been reported.
