Dharmanagar, Tripura, 22nd of March, 2026 : On the day of Eid-ul-Fitr, a shocking and fatal attack took place in Mangal Khali area under Dharmanagar subdivision of North Tripura, reportedly due to prior enmity. In the incident, one person lost his life while another is undergoing treatment in critical condition.

The incident occurred around 1 PM on Saturday when two brothers, Juned Ahmed (32) and Khaled Ahmed (28), residents of Ward No. 5 under Mangal Khali Gram Panchayat, were working on their agricultural land. According to family members, a group of assailants launched a pre-planned sudden attack on them.

Sources from the family revealed that the conflict stemmed from an earlier dispute involving a collision with a tipper truck near a brick kiln in Mangal Khali, along with a financial disagreement. The family also alleged that about a year ago, a local individual had taken construction materials worth approximately ₹2.5 lakh from Khaled Ahmed’s hardware shop but failed to repay the amount. The attack is believed to have been triggered by repeated demands for the outstanding payment.

According to the complaint, the attackers included Sab Uddin, Jubel Ahmed, Ekram Hossain, Moin Uddin, Saddam Hossain, and several others. Armed with sharp weapons and sticks, they allegedly assaulted the two brothers brutally, leaving both severely injured.

Following the incident, local residents and family members rushed the injured to Dharmanagar District Hospital. After initial treatment, doctors referred them to a higher medical facility due to their critical condition. The family then arranged to shift them to a private nursing home in Silchar, Assam. However, Khaled Ahmed succumbed to his injuries on the way before reaching Silchar. He was later declared dead upon arrival at the nursing home. Meanwhile, Juned Ahmed is currently undergoing treatment in a private hospital. The incident has sparked tension in the area. The family has alleged that despite being informed, the police from Dharmanagar Police Station arrived late at the scene, leading to resentment among locals. A formal complaint has already been lodged against the accused.

Hospital sources stated that the post-mortem will be conducted on Sunday, after which the body will be handed over to the family. The victim’s family and local residents have demanded the immediate arrest and strict punishment of the culprits. They have also urged prompt administrative intervention to maintain law and order in the area.
