Bengaluru, Karnataka, 25th of March 2026 : Why Amazon. In’s Zero Referral Fees For Products Up To ₹1,000 Could Be A Gamechanger For India’s Small Businesses.

For many small businesses, the cost of selling online directly shapes how quickly their business grows. Lower fees may improve savings; seller may make pricing more competitive and also give sellers the confidence to expand their product range.
Starting March 16, Amazon India expanded zero referral fees for over 12.5 crore products priced under ₹1,000 across 1,800+ categories, while also reducing Easy Ship fees by more than 20% for products under ₹300. Together, these changes may help sellers save up to 70% in total selling fees.
Here are seven ways zero referral fees may help small businesses grow online.
1. Better pricing for everyday products
This is especially important for products under ₹1,000, everyday items such as apparel, home essentials, electronics accessories, toys, and kitchenware where customers can discover a wide selection at better prices.
2. More room to expand product catalogues
High selling costs often force small businesses to limit what they list online. Many sellers start with just a few products. Lower fees make it easier to expand. Sellers may now list everyday products from T-shirts and earphones to sarees, bed sheets, toys, and kitchen appliances. For many entrepreneurs, this makes expanding their catalogue a natural next step.
3. Better earnings on every unit sold
For small sellers, every unit sold matters. Even modest savings on each product may add up when hundreds or thousands of units are shipped every month. Lower referral fees and logistics costs may improve the savings on individual products. For example, earphones priced at ₹798 and sold through Fulfilled by Amazon may now save sellers ₹139 per unit — a 56% reduction in fees.
For businesses selling in volume, these savings may give a meaningful boost to monthly savings.
4. Faster inventory turnover
Competitive pricing doesn’t just benefit customers — it accelerates sales for sellers. When products move faster, inventory turns over more quickly and less capital remains tied up in unsold stock. Incentives for shipping multiple items in one package may amplify this further. When sellers ship more than one unit in a single box, they can potentially save up to 90% in selling fees for the second unit onward.
5. Easier access to customers across India
One of the biggest advantages of e-commerce is the ability to reach customers nationwide. Programs like Easy Ship empower sellers to operate from their own premises while seamlessly reaching customers across the country, as Amazon manages pickup and delivery. With Easy Ship fees now reduced by more than 20% for products priced under ₹300, the cost of shipping becomes even more manageable. This may help more businesses — especially those in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities — reach customers across India.
6. Lower barriers for new sellers
Starting an online business can feel like a leap of faith, especially for first-time entrepreneurs with limited capital. Expanding zero referral fees for products up to ₹1,000 to over 12.5 crore products significantly lowers the cost of listing products online. This may make it easier for new sellers — including artisans, small manufacturers, and homegrown brands — to try selling online. It paves the way for more and more entrepreneurs to discover e-commerce as a powerful engine for growth.
7. More opportunity to reinvest in the business
Lower referral fees may lead to more savings, empowering sellers to reinvest in their own growth. Many use these savings to improve packaging, run advertising campaigns, expand their product range, or hold more inventory. Last year’s fee reductions showed that when the economics improve, sellers often respond by investing more confidently in their growth. With savings now available across a much larger range of products, this cycle of reinvestment could become even stronger.
