Dharmanagar, Tripura, 27th of March 2026 : The administration in Dharmanagar has swung into action following allegations of possible black marketing of GI sheets. Based on specific inputs, a special team led by the Additional Sub-Divisional Magistrate conducted surprise inspections at various hardware shops and supplier outlets across the town and its adjoining areas.The primary objective of the (drive) was to verify the authenticity of the complaints, examine whether any nexus was artificially creating a shortage in the market to sell GI sheets at inflated prices, and to raise awareness among traders.

According to officials, recent increases in demand for GI sheets have led to allegations that some unscrupulous traders are hoarding stock and reducing supply in the market. During the inspections, authorities checked stock registers, purchase and sales records, and price lists at multiple establishments.In some cases, traders were warned against selling products above the (prescribed) price and advised not to create artificial scarcity despite having sufficient stock.Officials clearly stated that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found involved in black marketing or hoarding.
At the same time, the administration has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any instances of overpricing of GI sheets.The administration expressed hope that such drives will ensure transparency in the market and help common consumers access essential materials at fair prices.
