Dharmanagar, Tripura, 8th of April, 2026 : In response to reports of tension surrounding the Ram Navami celebration in Balichhara village, near Kherengjuri under Dharmanagar subdivision in North Tripura, local residents have come forward to clarify the situation. They allege that certain groups are deliberately spreading misinformation to create communal division in the area.According to the villagers, a puja was indeed held on March 29 at the residence of Lakkhicharan Halam on the occasion of Ram Navami. However, they insist that no major conflict or communal tension arose from the event.Lakkhicharan Halam stated that some members of the local Christian community had merely inquired about the event, which has been misrepresented on social media with false narratives.

Mana Halam, Vice President of the Village Council, mentioned that many Hindus live in Balichhara and are often supported by local clubs and the Village Council Committee in various ways.A senior village elder (Gaobura) emphasized that both Hindu and Christian communities have been living together peacefully in the area for many years. “There has never been any major issue over religious events here. The current situation is being deliberately exaggerated by a few individuals attempting to create division,” he said.
Residents also dismissed allegations that a church had been locked, calling such claims completely baseless. They believe these rumors are being spread to disturb the peaceful environment of the village.Furthermore, locals rejected any claims of involvement or support from political parties, stating that the incident is the work of a few miscreants trying to disrupt harmony. “We have stood together and foiled such attempts,” said some residents.Speaking to the media today, the villagers urged the administration to take strict action against those spreading rumors. They also appealed to everyone to maintain peace and communal harmony. The message from Balichhara is clear—despite attempts at misinformation, the village continues to stand as a symbol of unity and harmony.
