Dharmanagar, Tripura, 14th of April 2026 : A road construction project from Noagaon to Indurail, spanning about 5.5 kilometers in a remote area of North district, has now become the center of intense controversy. Initiated under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) with an investment of several lakhs, the project is facing serious allegations regarding its quality and execution from local residents.According to the project signboard installed at the site, a significant budget was allocated with a fixed timeline for completion.

However, locals claim that the actual progress does not match the stated plan. While the work showed some initial momentum, it reportedly slowed down and eventually stalled, leaving several portions incomplete. The most serious concerns revolve around the quality of construction. Residents allege that in many places, proper soil cutting was not carried out, the road foundation is weak, and there is a complete lack of drainage systems. In a hilly terrain, the absence of essential retaining walls has raised alarms, increasing the risk of landslides and road collapse during the monsoon season.Cracks and visible damage have already appeared in multiple sections of the road, which locals believe indicate substandard construction practices. There are also allegations that inferior materials were used and that the work was rushed, leading to potential misuse of public funds and raising strong suspicions of corruption.
Although warning signboards have been installed at dangerous curves, pedestrians and drivers have questioned the lack of real safety measures. They argue that simply putting up caution signs is not enough—what is needed is a durable and safe road.Meanwhile, many residents are reportedly hesitant to speak out openly due to an atmosphere of fear. Allegations suggest that pressure from influential individuals associated with the ruling party has discouraged people from filing formal complaints.
One local resident, speaking on condition of anonymity, remarked, “If the road is in this condition even before completion, it’s easy to imagine what will happen in a few months.”So far, there has been no clear response from the concerned authorities regarding these allegations. However, civil society voices are demanding an immediate and impartial investigation, strict action against those responsible, and proper completion of the project to ensure safe transportation for the public.Irregularities in such critical infrastructure projects not only result in financial losses but also pose serious risks to public safety. As a result, calls for urgent administrative intervention in the Noagaon–Indurail road project are growing stronger.
