Agartala, Tripura/Teliamura, 15th of April 2026 : The Election Commissioner for District Council has taken serious cognizance of certain incidents reported during the polling process at the polling station No. 5 Nanda Kumar Para JB School under 11-Maharanipur Teliamura (ST) District Council Constituency.
The re-poll will be held on the 16th April, 2026 from 7.00 AM to 4.00 PM.
The Election Commissioner For District Council Election Tripura statement ” Based on the report submitted by the District Election Officer, Superintendent of Police, Khowai District, SDPO, Khowai, Returning Officer and other officers, it has been prima facie found that the poll process was vitiated by creating a sense of fear among people and polling agent. The polling agent was assaulted by a group of people stated to belong to rival political party. This seriously impaired his ability to function as polling agent. Moreover, the said incident cast a shadow of fear and anxiety among general voters of the aforesaid localities who were planning to visit the polling station for casting their votes in the second half of the poll day. This situation compromised the free and fair elections.
The Commission views such actions with utmost seriousness. Maintaining the integrity, transparency, and credibility of the electoral process remains paramount.
Accordingly, in exercise of the powers vested in it, the Election Commissioner to the District Council has ordered the poll at the affected polling station, i.e. 11/5-Nanda Kumar Para JB School under 11-Maharanipur-Teliamura (ST) District Council Constituency void.
The re-poll will be held on the 16th April, 2026 from 7.00 AM to 4.00 PM. All necessary arrangements will be made to ensure smooth, peaceful, and impartial conduct of the re-poll. Adequate security measures will also be deployed to prevent any recurrence of such incidents.
The Commission appeals to all stakeholders, including political parties, candidates, and voters to cooperate in upholding the sanctity of the electoral process.
