Dharmanagar, Tripura, 18th of April 2026 : A Bangladeshi transgender individual was detained by the 97th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Dharmanagar, North Tripura. The detainee has been identified as Munna Sarkar (20), son of Shyamal Sarkar, a resident of Kalitola in Bangladesh.

According to reports, the individual was apprehended due to suspicious movement and was later handed over to the Dharmanagar Police Station. Police stated that the person had traveled from Comilla in Bangladesh to Dharmanagar Railway Station via Agartala. From there, the plan was reportedly to travel to Guwahati in Assam.
Officer-in-Charge of Dharmanagar Police Station, Meena Debbarma, confirmed that a case has been registered in connection with the incident. During preliminary interrogation, information regarding the travel route and purpose is being collected. Authorities are also investigating the possibility of illegal entry into India across the border.The detainee will be produced before the court, and further action will be taken as per legal procedures. Meanwhile, the incident has led to calls from concerned quarters for strengthening surveillance in border areas.
