Agartala, Tripura, 3rd of May 2026 : In a major boost to the research and higher education ecosystem of Tripura, Techno India University, Tripura (TIUT) has been officially recognized as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. This marks a significant milestone for the state, placing the university among a select group of Indian institutions acknowledged for their commitment to scientific advancement and institutional research capabilities. This recognition is expected to fundamentally transform the university’s research profile by providing TIUT with streamlined access to national-level support mechanisms and encouraging high-impact interdisciplinary initiatives. This recognition reinforces TIUT’s existing research-based education system in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Beyond the campus, the development strengthens Tripura’s position within the country’s evolving knowledge economy and fosters a more robust environment for innovation. The status is a formal validation of the university’s infrastructure and its capacity to conduct high-level scientific and industrial inquiries that contribute to national growth.

The attainment of SIRO status is widely viewed as the culmination of the vision set forth by the Hon’ble Chancellor, Prof. Satyam Roy Chowdhury, who has long prioritized the integration of academic learning with meaningful, industry-relevant research. His focus on academic expansion and research infrastructure has been instrumental in meeting the rigorous criteria set by the DSIR.

Highlighting the importance of this achievement, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Ratan Kumar Saha stated that the SIRO recognition is a testament to the university’s growing stature as a hub for scientific inquiry and a crucial step toward empowering both faculty and students to contribute to national progress. He noted that this validation will allow the university to better bridge the gap between theoretical education and industrial application, ultimately serving as a catalyst for socio-economic growth in the Northeast region and ensuring that the university remains at the forefront of the country’s research landscape.

Currently, TIUT offers an extensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, alongside Ph.D. tracks that drive advanced knowledge creation across multiple departments. This new recognition is poised to further strengthen these academic offerings as the university continues its journey toward becoming a premier center of excellence. Prospective students and researchers can take note that the admissions process for the 2026-27 academic session is currently underway, offering them the opportunity to be part of this newly elevated research environment.
