Dharmanagar, Tripura, 16th of May 2026 : A wave of panic has spread across the area after burglaries were reported in five houses on Thursday evening in Ward No. 6 of Rajnagar village under Dharmanagar subdivision in North Tripura.According to reports, most villagers were attending the Charak fair at the time, and the thieves took advantage of the situation.

The first incident came to light around 7:30 PM at the house of Bishwajit Singha. Soon after, similar thefts in several nearby houses were discovered.Local resident Shanti Gopal Nath said that upon returning home from the fair, he found the grill of his veranda broken and the main door open. Likewise, the doors of the houses belonging to Mohan Banshi Nath and Rinku Nath were also found broken or left open.
Preliminary reports suggest that gold and silver ornaments worth nearly ₹4 lakh, along with two mobile phones, were stolen from the house of Shanti Gopal Nath. In addition, mobile phones, cash, and other valuable items were stolen from a relative’s house nearby. Cash and jewellery were also reportedly stolen from the house of neighboring resident Anil Nath. Although thieves entered the house of Amulya Bhowmik, they reportedly failed to take anything significant.After receiving information about the incidents, Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Dharmanagar, Jayanta Karmakar, and Officer-in-Charge of Dharmanagar Police Station, Mina Debbarma, along with a large police force, reached the spot. An investigation has been launched with the help of a dog squad, and surveillance in surrounding areas has been intensified.
Local residents claim that Rajnagar village has never witnessed such a series of burglaries before. As a result, fear and concern over security have gripped the entire locality.Attention is now focused on what steps the police administration will take regarding the incident.
