Agartala, Tripura, 16th of May, 2026 : Emphasizing sustainable and responsible development, the Tripura Rural Economic Growth & Service Delivery Project (TRESP) organized a Sensitization Workshop-cum-Training on Environmental and Social Safeguard Measures today at Pragna Bhawan, Agartala.

The workshop focused on reinforcing the integration of environmental and social safeguards in TRESP’s infrastructure component, particularly in road construction and school building projects. The event brought together key stakeholders including government officials, engineers, contractors, and technical experts to strengthen coordination and ensure effective implementation of safeguard measures.
Welcoming the participants, Chief Operating Officer Shri Gajendra Verma underlined the importance of adopting environmentally sound and socially responsible practices in all construction activities. He noted that such initiatives enhance clarity and collaboration among stakeholders involved in project execution.
Project Director Shri Subhasis Das highlighted that TRESP is a multi-sectoral initiative aimed at improving connectivity, enhancing education infrastructure, and boosting livelihoods in rural and tribal areas. He shared that the infrastructure component includes the development of 88 roads covering about 288 km and 16 school buildings across 11 aspirational blocks, which will significantly improve access to essential services.
He further stressed that the Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP), a key requirement under World Bank-supported projects, ensures that all development activities adhere to sustainability standards and promote social inclusion.

Experts from various departments conducted technical sessions on regulatory compliance, pollution control, groundwater usage, fire safety, waste management, and labour welfare. The workshop also highlighted the importance of safety practices, use of protective equipment, community engagement, and adherence to environmental norms at construction sites.
The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates, marking a successful effort in building capacity and reinforcing the importance of environmental and social safeguards in TRESP infrastructure development.
