Gujarat, 18th of May 2026 : AmpereHour Energy and IndiGrid [BSE: 540565 | NSE: INDIGRID] have commissioned a 180 MW / 360 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation (GETCO) substation in Gujarat. With Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) as the off-taker, this project is the largest standalone utility-scale battery energy storage (BESS) installations in India and stand amongst the largest BESS capacities in Asia.

The commissioning of this project has significantly strengthened the regional energy landscape. Over the last few years, Gujarat has emerged as a frontrunner in the renewable energy sector, having launched a collective 870 MW of battery storage capacity projects state-wide. Within this ambitious ecosystem, this IndiGrid-AmpereHour project stands out as a lighthouse for standalone storage, demonstrating how technology can stabilize the grid and ensure 24/7 renewable energy supply.
Building one of Asia’s largest standalone BESS was a mammoth task that required AmpereHour to scale the learnings from its 40 MWh Delhi project into a massive 360 MWh reality. To meet GUVNL’s stringent grid requirements, AmpereHour’s R&D and engineering teams conducted advanced simulation studies to optimize the entire electrical chain – right from the 220 kV grid connection down to the DC systems, ensuring high Round Trip Efficiency (RTE) and usable energy.
The project utilized AmpereHour’s ELINA EMS to integrate massive data streams and the AH Suite software platform to maintain high-quality execution across multiple contractors. From “boots on the ground” quality audits to navigating complex international logistics, AmpereHour’s scientific approach and “First Time Right” principle culminated in a flawless, one-go commissioning.

“This project is a ‘lighthouse’ moment for the Indian energy sector,” said Rahul Shelke, Co-Founder & MD of AmpereHour Energy. “Our Flexible Integration architecture was the key to this scale; by providing an intelligent, adaptable technology layer, we enabled IndiGrid to deploy a system that is technically superior and commercially optimized. As Gujarat continues to expand its energy storage footprint, we are excited to showcase how our technology serves as the backbone for such critical infrastructure.”
As the project developer, IndiGrid has set a new benchmark for utility-scale storage infrastructure in India. This BESS facility will store excess renewable energy during off-peak hours and discharge it during periods of high demand, reducing curtailment and providing essential grid resilience.

“The successful commissioning of this 180 MW / 360 MWh BESS project was a proud moment for IndiGrid and marks an important milestone for India’s evolving energy infrastructure,” said Harsh Shah, Managing Director of IndiGrid. “AmpereHour’s ability to design, integrate and energize a complex Battery Energy Storage System at scale was key to the success of this project. This is a critical asset that underscores our commitment to supporting India’s goal of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.”
