Agartala, Tripura, 21st of May 2026 : The Department of Cardiology, AGMC & GBP Hospital, Agartala, has successfully treated a complex case of Uterine Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) in a 38-year-old tribal female patient from the remote Dhamchara area of Dhalai district, North Tripura.

The patient had presented with severe abdominal pain and per-vaginal bleeding. The critical condition was promptly diagnosed by Prof. Dr. J. L. Baidya, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, with timely support from the Department of Gynaecology and the Department of Radiology. The Department of Cardiology extends special thanks to Prof. Dr. J. L. Baidya and the entire Gynaecology and Radiology teams for their early diagnosis and coordinated clinical support.
The patient underwent a highly complex endovascular procedure in which multiple coils were deployed into the right uterine artery and additional feeder vessels supplying the AVM. The entire procedure was performed without any open surgery, through a minimally invasive catheter-based technique.
This 3-hour-long complex intervention was successfully completed by Dr. Anindya Sundar Trivedi, Interventional Cardiologist and I/C HoD, Department of Cardiology, along with Dr. Rakesh Das and Dr. Manna Bhattacharjee from the Department of Cardiology.
This is the first time such a procedure has been successfully performed in Tripura, marking an important milestone in advanced minimally invasive vascular intervention in the state.
The procedure was done completely free of cost for the patient. Special acknowledgement is due to DYMS Dr. Bikash Debbarma and Medical Superintendent, AGMC & GBP Hospital, Dr. Bidhan Goswami, for taking special initiatives in arranging the rarely available coil implants required for this life-saving intervention.
This achievement reflects the growing capability of AGMC & GBP Hospital to provide advanced, high-end, minimally invasive treatment to patients from even the most remote areas of Tripura, without the need for referral outside the state.
