Dharmanagar, Tripura, 9th of June 2026 : Three Bangladeshi nationals and an Indian broker were arrested by the 97 Battalion of the Border Security Force in the Kadamtala border area of North Tripura for allegedly entering India illegally and attempting to return to Bangladesh on Monday (8th June, 2026). The incident has created a stir in the locality.

According to police sources, on June 7, BSF personnel of the 97 Battalion detained four individuals along with an e-rickshaw near the Ranirbari BSF Border Outpost after finding them moving suspiciously in the area. They were later handed over to Kadamtala Police Station.
During interrogation, the three detainees admitted to being Bangladeshi nationals. Preliminary investigation revealed that they had entered India without valid travel documents and were trying to return to Bangladesh. Police identified local auto-rickshaw driver Manik Roy as the facilitator who allegedly assisted them in the process.
Two mobile phones and several other items were seized from the accused. A case has been registered at Kadamtala Police Station under the relevant provisions of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. Police have sought a three-day remand of the accused for further investigation. Jayanta Karmakar, Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Dharmanagar, provided details of the incident. Police are also investigating whether any other individuals or organized network were involved in the illegal cross-border movement.
