Dharmanagar, Tripura, 14th of June 2026 : A special environment-friendly program titled “Prabin Ban–2026” was organized on Saturday (13th June, 2026) at Uptakhali S.B. School premises under the initiative of the Yubarajnagar R.D. Block with the support of the North Tripura District Administration. The unique initiative aimed to encourage senior citizens to contribute towards creating a greener legacy for future generations through tree plantation.

According to the scheduled program, activities included plantation of saplings by elderly women, a drawing competition for children and adolescents, cultural performances, an environmental conservation pledge, and various awareness-building programs. From the morning, the school campus witnessed a festive atmosphere, with people of all age groups participating enthusiastically.However, the mood of the event changed dramatically when news arrived of the demise of former Tripura Minister Faizur Rahman. The atmosphere quickly turned sombre, prompting the organizers to reconsider the planned celebrations.
Considering the significance of the situation, the organizers decided to cancel all remaining activities. Subsequently, only the tree plantation program by senior citizens was carried out as part of the “Prabin Bon–2026” initiative.Among those present at the event were North Tripura District Magistrate Chandni Chandran, Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Aparna Nath, Yubarajnagar Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Aparna Sinha, BDO of Yubarajnagar Block Prasenjit Malakar, along with several other dignitaries, Panchayat representatives, students from different schools, their guardians, and local senior citizens.

The guests paid tribute to the memory of the late leader, after which the formal conclusion of the program was announced.The organizers stated that the objective of “Prabin Bon–2026” was to spread awareness about the importance of protecting nature and the environment. Although the full program could not be conducted due to the unforeseen circumstances, the primary goal of delivering a green message for future generations through tree plantation by senior citizens was successfully achieved.
