Dharmanagar, Tripura, 21st of June 2026 : A memorial meeting was held on Saturday (20th June, 2026) at the Deowanpasha residence of veteran CPI(M) leader Hem Gopal Sharma in Dharmanagar. Organized by the Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Committee of CPI(M), the event was attended by party leaders from the state, district, and sub-divisional levels, who paid floral tributes to the late leader’s portrait.

Addressing at the event, CPI(M) State Secretariat member Amitabha Dutta recalled Sharma’s political journey and close connection with the people. He described the late leader as a dedicated left-wing activist whose ideals and lifelong struggles would continue to inspire future generations.District Secretary Abhijit De highlighted various aspects of Sharma’s long political career. He noted that after becoming a party member in 1967, Hem Gopal Sharma held several important organizational responsibilities. He remained actively involved in youth movements, farmers’ organizations, and public service initiatives in coordination with local administrative bodies.
Among those who addressed the gathering were State Committee member Durgesh Roy, Sub-Divisional Secretary Ratan Roy, MLA Shailendra Chandra Nath, Haflong Area Secretary Karuna Nath, and leaders of various mass organizations. The meeting concluded with a brief address by Tilak Debbarma on behalf of the presidium.It may be noted that Hem Gopal Sharma passed away on May 16 at the age of 79 following age-related illness. He is survived by his wife, only son, daughter-in-law, and numerous admirers and well-wishers.
