Dharmanagar, Tripura, 21st of June 2026 : A unique example of humanitarian support has come to light in Anandabazar under Dharmanagar Sub-Division of North Tripura district, centered around an elderly and helpless woman.

According to local sources, the woman has been living in the CPI(M) Anandabazar Area Committee office for nearly eight years. A room in the party office has effectively become her permanent shelter. The elderly woman has been identified as Shubhadra Nath (75), wife of the late Harendra Nath. She was previously residing in the Anandabazar market area. It is reported that her house was completely destroyed in a mysterious fire. Following the incident, local BJP leaders reportedly advised her to take shelter in the CPI(M) area committee office. In response, local CPI(M) leaders, on humanitarian grounds, provided her with a room in the party office. Since then, Shubhadra Nath has been living there under difficult circumstances for the past eight years.
Concerned citizens have questioned why no permanent rehabilitation arrangement has been made for the elderly woman despite her prolonged stay in the party office. They argue that if any sudden mishap were to occur while she is residing there, questions would arise regarding legal and social responsibility. According to many local residents, supporting helpless individuals should transcend political ideologies and remain a shared responsibility of both society and the administration.
A section of local residents has demanded administrative intervention to ensure a safe and permanent residence for the elderly woman, along with access to necessary healthcare services and government rehabilitation schemes. They believe that a compassionate approach toward marginalized and vulnerable people is a true reflection of good governance. Many observers feel that the present situation raises concerns about the effectiveness of governance beyond official claims. The incident has sparked fresh discussions in the area regarding humanity, social responsibility, and the role of the administration. It now remains to be seen whether administrative intervention will bring any positive change to the life of the elderly woman who has spent years living in uncertainty.
