Agartala, Tripura, 23rd of June 2026 : With the initiative of West Tripura District Basket Ball Association organized three-day state-level basket ball championship at NSRCC on Tuesday (23rd June, 2026). In the presence of many distinguished dignitaries Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has inaugurated the event.
Addressing at the inauguration ceremony three-day state-level basket ball championship Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said that Youths must be involved in sports activities to keep their body and mind healthy. The state government is also implementing various plans to develop sports infrastructure for the benefit of sportsmen of the state. The Chief Minister said now parents are quiet conscious about the importance of sports in life. They also try to engage their children in sports activities, besides studies. Naturally children get inspired to take up any work or vocation with enthusiasm.
The Chief Minister also added that in today’s digital age revolutionary changes have come in the field of sports as well about which the players and coaches should be aware of. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Mann ki Baat programme often interact with nationally and internationally acclaimed sportspersons. The objective behind doing this is – to encourage the young generation in sports, added the Chief Minister. He said sports persons must aim to give their best in any sports competition. Defeat or victory should not be the main goal. Participation in sports events is what matters more.
Addressing the event Hon’ble Sports Minister Tinku Roy highlighted the state government’s outlook towards the development of sports infrastructure in the state. At the same time he added, development of infrastructure alone would not serve the purpose. Mental transformation of sportspersons must be focused on. He also emphasized organizing similar sports competitions in different subdivisions of the state.
The championship will continue upto June 25. Teams from North Tripura, Dhalai, Khowai, West Tripura, Sepahijala, Gomati, South Tripura district, ICFAI University and Tripura Central University will be participating in this championship. Nine would be boys team, seven would be girls team and seven would be youth groups. Among others were present secretary of the Sports Council Sukanta Ghosh, president of Tripura Basket Ball Association Sanjoy Saha, secretary Samir Das and officials of the sports department.
