Sabroom, Tripura, 27th of June 2026 : Residents of the East Ludhua Tea Garden area under the Rupaichari Block in Sabroom Subdivision are facing an acute drinking water crisis. Locals allege that despite repeated appeals to the concerned authorities, the shortage of safe drinking water remains unresolved, forcing them to endure severe hardship in their daily lives.

Residents of East Ludhua Tea Garden have been facing a prolonged drinking water crisis, with the disruption of piped water supply causing severe inconvenience. Locals allege that water has not been reaching households for a considerable period, while several newly built overhead water tanks in the area remain non-functional due to the lack of water supply. As a result, neither the storage tanks are being filled nor are homes receiving drinking water, forcing residents to endure daily hardships and repeatedly appeal for immediate intervention from the concerned authorities.

The local residents have held the Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) Department responsible for the prolonged disruption, alleging that the department has failed to ensure a regular and adequate supply of potable water to the area.

Residents alleged that although the state government has introduced various drinking water infrastructure projects as part of its development initiatives, the benefits have not reached the people due to poor maintenance. They claimed that several water supply pipelines laid across the area have developed leaks and remain damaged at multiple locations, but the concerned department has not undertaken the necessary repair work.

According to the residents, they have repeatedly brought the matter to the attention of the concerned department. However, they were reportedly informed that no funds had been allocated for carrying out the repair work. The people of the area have urged the government to intervene at the earliest and ensure that the damaged pipelines are repaired so that the long-standing drinking water crisis in East Ludhua Tea Garden can be resolved.
