Kanchanpur, Tripura, 3rd of July, 2026 : In a significant step towards strengthening fisheries-based livelihoods, the District Project Management Unit (DPMU), North Tripura, under the Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP), in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, organised a One-Day Block-Level Fishery Workshop at Kanchanpur Sub-Division for Matsya Sakhis from Laljuri and Dasda R.D. Blocks.

The workshop was inaugurated by Shri Animesh Chakma, SF, Kanchanpur, in the presence of Dr. Samar Roy, Nodal Officer (TRESP Fisheries), Shri B. Hijam, Fishery Specialist, and Ms. Songhita Paul, District Manager (Fishery), DPMU North. Officials from the Department of Fisheries, TRESP district and block teams, and Technical Support Agency (TSA) staff also attended the programme.
Altogether, 36 Matsya Sakhis representing 24 Village Committees from Laljuri and Dasda R.D. Blocks participated in the day-long training programme aimed at enhancing their technical skills and strengthening grassroots implementation of fisheries interventions under TRESP.

The sessions covered the roles and responsibilities of Matsya Sakhis, fisheries livelihood promotion, beneficiary support, community mobilisation, inter-departmental coordination, and monitoring of fisheries activities. Resource persons stressed the importance of timely reporting, regular field guidance, and close collaboration between the Department of Fisheries and TRESP teams for achieving sustainable outcomes.

The workshop also provided an interactive platform for participants to share field experiences, discuss implementation challenges, and seek practical solutions. The initiative reflects DPMU North Tripura’s continued commitment to building the capacities of community resource persons and fostering effective convergence for sustainable, fisheries-based livelihood development across the project area.
