The programme was inaugurated by Chief Guest Sri Vikram Singh Mann, IPS, Director General, Telangana Fire, Disaster Response, Emergency & Civil Defence Department, in the presence of as the Guests of Honour, Sri Prasad Nishtala, Founder Director & CEO, Basic Elements; Sri S N Reddy, State President, TRSMA; and over500 school owners, correspondents, principals and senior administrators from educational institutions across Telangana.
The initiative assumes added significance in the wake of tragic fire accidents reported from educational institutions across the country, where negligence and inadequate safety measures have resulted in the loss of innocent lives. Conducted at the beginning of the new academic year, the programme aimed to sensitise school managements on adopting preventive measures, strengthening emergency preparedness, and creating safer learning environments for students and staff.
Sri Vikram Singh Mann, IPS, in his address said, Fire safety is often overlooked in our society. While robust laws, regulations, and guidelines are essential, creating awareness is equally important. Addressing school management representatives, he urged them to return to their institutions, review their existing fire safety measures, identify gaps, and take immediate corrective action. The ultimate goal, he emphasised, is to ensure that every school is a completely safe environment for every child. He noted with satisfaction that Telangana has fortunately not witnessed any major fire incidents in schools and stressed the importance of sustaining this record through strict adherence to safety norms and continuous awareness initiatives. He also directed that the message be taken to every school, every school management, and every parent to ensure widespread awareness and implementation of fire safety measures.

Sri Prasad Nishtala, Founder Director & CEO, Basic Elements, said, Technology plays a vital role in preventing disasters before they occur, particularly in schools where children’s lives are at stake. Smart monitoring and proactive safety solutions can significantly enhance preparedness and ensure the safety of students, staff, and infrastructure. He observed that public concern over fire accidents is often short-lived, with interest fading soon after an incident. He urged school managements to make fire safety a continuous priority, noting that children spend 6–8 hours a day in school and deserve a safe environment to learn and thrive. On behalf of Fire and Security Association of India. He offered free fire safety awareness and training programmes for schools, stressing the need to build a culture of fire safety and emergency preparedness from childhood. He also introduced FIOT, an intelligent fire safety solution developed by Basic Elements. The system can be installed in classrooms, school buses, auditoriums, laboratories, or any other critical area to detect smoke, heat, gas leaks, and carbon monoxide. Upon detecting a threat, it triggers an audible alarm and instantly sends a critical alert to the designated person’s mobile phone within five seconds, whether they are in the school, at home, or far away from the location of the accident. The alert overrides silent mode or even when the mobile is switched off, enabling immediate action. He noted that since most fires can be controlled within the first 180 seconds, such rapid detection and notification can play a crucial role in preventing a minor incident from escalating into a major disaster.
Sri S. N. Reddy, State President, TRSMA, said, following a tragic school fire in Tamil Nadu, the Supreme Court laid down comprehensive fire safety guidelines that every school must strictly comply with. He emphasised that student safety remains the foremost priority, with schools ensuring round-the-clock CCTV surveillance and dedicated support from teaching and non-teaching staff to provide a safe, secure, and nurturing learning environment. Highlighting the scale of school education in Telangana, he noted that the state has nearly 5 lakh teaching and non-teaching staff, around 12,000 schools, and approximately 62 lakh students, of whom 37 lakh study in private schools. Stressing that every child deserves a safe, secure, and inspiring environment to learn and grow, he called for collective efforts to strengthen school safety, ensure quality education for all, and work with dedication to make Telangana the No. 1 literacy state in India.
The comprehensive awareness programme covered key aspects of fire risk assessment, prevention of fire hazards, emergency response protocols, evacuation planning, fire protection systems, regulatory compliance, and the responsibilities of school managements in maintaining safe educational campuses.
As part of the event, Basic Elements Launched “FIoT” Smart IoT Monitoring Solutions for Schools, first of its kind in India, a standalone smart fire detector developed for independent establishments such as schools, coaching centres, clinics, retail outlets, offices, pharmacies, restaurants, and other small commercial occupancies, making early fire detection simple, reliable, and accessible; where in you can monitor your premises from your mobile or other browsers.
The other innovative first of its kind products like BE- PROMPT and IGNICOP have also been demonstrated which are intelligent emergency communication systems that instantly alerts designated stakeholders during fire emergencies.

The organisers expressed confidence that the initiative would encourage educational institutions across Telangana to adopt a proactive approach towards fire safety and disaster preparedness, fostering a culture of prevention and ensuring safer schools for every child.
