Dharmanagar, Tripura, 24th of July 2026 : With the objective of making the town cleaner, healthier, and more environmentally friendly, Dharmanagar Municipal Council inaugurated an awareness programme on the Solid Waste Management Rules-2026 at Ardhendu Bhattacharya Smriti Bhavan in North Tripura on Friday (24th July, 2026).
The programme was inaugurated by Dharmanagar MLA Jahar Chakraborty. Among those present were Municipal Council Chairperson Mitali Rani Das Sen, Vice Chairperson Manju Nath, Chief Executive Officer Debjani Choudhury, councillors of the Municipal Council, officials from various government departments, municipal employees, and prominent citizens of the town.

Speakers at the event highlighted that rapid urbanization has led to a steady increase in the generation of solid waste. They stressed that unless waste is properly segregated, collected, recycled, and scientifically disposed of, it would not only cause environmental pollution but also pose serious risks to public health. Therefore, active participation from citizens is essential for the effective implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules-2026.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Jahar Chakraborty emphasized the importance of public awareness in keeping the town clean. He stated that building a modern and well-developed city requires the collective efforts of the administration, the Municipal Council, and every responsible citizen. He urged residents to adopt the practice of segregating waste at the household level and disposing of it in accordance with the prescribed guidelines.
Officials of the Municipal Council also explained various aspects of the Solid Waste Management Rules-2026, including methods of waste segregation, management of recyclable and non-recyclable waste, and the responsibilities of citizens in maintaining a clean urban environment.The speakers expressed hope that with the combined efforts of the Sub-Divisional Administration, the Municipal Council, and the people, Dharmanagar can be transformed into a clean, beautiful, and environmentally sustainable town.
