Dharmanagar, Tripura, 2nd of August, 2026 : Dissatisfaction is growing among local residents over the ongoing maintenance work on the Dharmanagar–Kailashahar road.

According to allegations, while the official work order includes pothole filling, brick soling, drain construction, stripping, and protection works, in reality, several stretches have only been covered with loose brick chips. This has raised questions over whether the work is being carried out according to the prescribed standards.

As per the work order, contractor Narayan Nath Choudhury was awarded the project at a cost of ₹2,280,770.58 (approximately ₹22.81 lakh), with a completion period of 180 days. However, local residents claim that many sections of the road remain in poor condition. Even light rainfall is reportedly creating fresh potholes, causing inconvenience and safety concerns for commuters.

Residents further allege that the work being executed does not match the specifications mentioned in the work order. They have questioned whether public funds are being utilized properly and whether the quality of construction meets the required standards. They also claim that officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), including the responsible Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) and engineers, have rarely been seen inspecting the site, raising concerns over the monitoring and supervision of the project.

The locals have demanded an immediate on-site inspection by senior departmental authorities, a technical inquiry into the work, and a thorough quality assessment. They insist that no payment should be released to the contractor until the actual progress and quality of the project have been independently verified.
