Dharmanagar, Tripura, 4th of August, 2026 : A concerning incident took place on Monday afternoon at the Dharmanagar branch of the Tripura Cooperative Bank in North Tripura, when a portion of the building’s ceiling suddenly collapsed during regular banking hours.

A woman customer and a child who were present inside the bank sustained injuries in the incident. Fortunately, their injuries were reported to be minor. However, the accident created panic among customers and bank employees.

According to eyewitnesses, as soon as the ceiling collapsed, customers and staff rushed to rescue the injured and arranged immediate first aid. After being informed, the owner of the building arrived at the bank. However, the injured persons alleged that instead of taking the matter seriously, the owner threatened some of those present and remarked that the victims had not suffered any significant injuries.

A bank official present at the scene stated that the bank had repeatedly informed the building owner about the need to repair the deteriorating ceiling, but no effective action had been taken. The official added that although the old building had recently been repainted from the outside, the cracks and weakened portions of the ceiling had gone unnoticed. He also expressed shock over the sudden collapse.

Following the incident, customers of the Dharmanagar branch have expressed serious concerns about the safety of the building. Members of the local community have demanded that the structure be inspected immediately by qualified engineers and, if necessary, the old building be demolished and replaced with a new one under the supervision of the concerned authorities. They warned that failure to act promptly could result in a much more serious accident in the future.

The incident has sparked widespread concern in the area, and residents are now closely watching to see what action the administration and the concerned authorities will take.
