Four Left Front Mass Organisations Stage Protest Over MGNREGA and Women’s Security.

Sabroom, Tripura, 11th of August, 2026 : Four Left Front  organisations—Kisan Sabha, Khet Mazdoor Union, GMP and the youth organisation protest against the alleged anti-people policies of the Central and state governments on Monday (10th August, 2026). The protest programme was organised against the alleged failure of the Central and state governments to fulfil their promises and in support of several public-interest demands.

Left front leader Krishna Rakshit and former MLA Prabhat Chowdhury, along with local CPI(M) leaders, office-bearers, activists and supporters of various mass organisations, were present at the protest.

The protest programme start  in front of the Sabroom CPI(M) party office and proceeded through various parts of the town before reaching the office of the administration, where the protesters attempted to stage a demonstration. CPI(M) leaders, workers and supporters broke through the first police barricade and advanced towards the second barricade. A large contingent of police and TSR personnel then detained the protesters and took them to the Sabroom Rishi Aurobindo Auditorium.

Interacted with the media, CPI(M) Central Committee member and women’s leader Krishna Rakshit expressed strong resentment, alleging that the Central Government had deceived the common people by making promises that were not fulfilled. She demanded that the 100-day work programme be continued in full instead of creating confusion in the name of the “VB-G Ram G” scheme. She also criticised both the state and Central governments over the growing number of farmer suicides and the lack of employment opportunities for the youth.

The Left leaders also strongly demanded the withdrawal of the increased electricity tariffs in the state, ensuring the safety and security of women, and an end to the alleged “mafia rule” and expanding drug menace across the state. They strongly condemned the alleged arbitrary arrest and detention of protesters and demanded their immediate release. The leaders warned that larger and more intensified movements would be launched in the coming days until their demands are fulfilled.
