Science And Technology Minister Emphasizes Building Up Awareness About Biotechnology & Scientific Thinking Among Students.

Agartala, Tripura, 13th of August, 2026 : With the initiative of Tripura Biotechnology Council Government of Tripura organized Training Programme on DNA Club Activities at Pragna Bhavan on Wednesday (12th August, 2026).

In the presence of many distinguished dignitaries Hon’ble Science, Technology and Environment Minister Animesh Debbarma inaugurated the event by lighting the ceremonial Lamp.

The Minister of Science, Technology and Environment Animesh Debbarma also stressed building up awareness about biotechnology and developing scientific thinking among the students. This will boost greater scientific awareness and practical learning which in could open up new opportunities for future generations, stated the minister today after inaugurating a training programme for the Headmasters and teacher-coordinators associated with DNA clubs at Pragna Bhavan.

Addressing at the programme, Minister Animesh Debbarma urged teachers to encourage students to ask questions. He said teachers should not discourage students as even silly questions could lead to new ideas and solutions in the future. Minister Animesh Debbarma praised the initiative of the Tripura Biotechnology Council and appreciated its efforts to promote science education in the state.

At the event Principal Secretary of the department Chaitanya Murthy praised the role DNA Club in the spread of scientific awareness. He hoped that DNA clubs will keep playing such significant role in the school in the coming days as well.

Today the Minister launched 50 new DNA Clubs. With that the total number of DNA Clubs in the state now stands at 272. So far, 222 higher secondary schools in Tripura have established DNA Clubs. With the addition of 50 new clubs on Wednesday, the total has increased to 272. The DNA Clubs to be made operational in during the 2026-27 financial year, include 7 in North Tripura, 4 in Unakoti, 5 in Dhalai, 5 in Khowai, 8 in West Tripura, 7 in Sepahijala, 6 in Gomati and 8 in South Tripura.

Today’s programme was also attended by the Director of Biotechnology department Mahendra Singh, and Joint Director of Biotechnology Anjan Sengupta. The Minister also launched annual book of Tripura Biotechnology Council.
