Mumbai, Maharashtra, 17th of August, 2026 : After spending more than two decades making her mark in the television and digital entertainment industry, Nivedita Basu is now embracing a new role—as a competitive squash player. Having taken up squash seriously after the age of 40, Nivedita now represents Maharashtra on the Masters circuit and has become a seeded player in her category. Sport has been a part of her life since childhood. Her father played tennis and squash, while her mother was a national-level table tennis and handball player. As Nivedita puts it, “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.”

Associated with Balaji Telefilms on popular shows such as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Nivedita later ventured into leadership and entrepreneurship. Today, squash is more than just a fitness activity for her—it has become a pursuit driven by goals, discipline and competition.
At the National Masters Squash Championship held in Kolkata, she reached the semifinals, demonstrating her competitive ability. “I cannot change when I started, but how seriously I take it now is in my hands,” she says.

To encourage more women to take up sports, Nivedita has also launched the Women & Racquet Sports initiative. Her message is clear: “Starting something new after 40 is not too late; it is an opportunity to rediscover yourself.”
