Guwahati, Assam, 20th of August, 2026 : The editors delegation from Assam visited the CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC), Chennai, as part of the ongoing PIB Media Tour to Tamil Nadu. The visit provided the media representatives with an opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of advanced structural engineering technologies, disaster mitigation measures and seismic resilience technologies aimed at developing safer and more resilient infrastructure.

The visit commenced with a briefing by Dr. N. Anandavalli, Director, CSIR-SERC, who highlighted the Centre’s significant contributions to the development of innovative technologies for national infrastructure. She briefed the delegation on CSIR-SERC’s work in structural engineering, sustainable construction practices, innovative materials, structural health monitoring and disaster-mitigation technologies.
During the visit, the media delegation toured two specialised workshops/laboratories at CSIR-SERC, where experts and officials demonstrated various advanced technologies, equipment and research facilities. Demonstrations related to seismic testing, structural resilience and fatigue testing were given, providing them with insights into how buildings and infrastructure can be designed and tested to withstand earthquakes and other natural hazards.
