Sabroom, Tripura, 21st of August, 2026 : A special programme was organized at the Sabroom Old Town Hall on Thursday (20th August, 2026) to mark the birth centenary of Fidel Castro, the revolutionary leader and former head of state of Cuba. The birth centenary was observed with due respect, enthusiasm, and fervour.
The chief guest at the event was Cuban Ambassador Juan Carlos Aguleiro . He was accompanied by CPI(M) Politburo member Jitendra Chaudhury, former MP Shankar Prasad Datta, Krishna Rakshit, and other distinguished personalities.

At the beginning of the programme, the guests and leaders present paid floral tributes to the portrait of Fidel Castro. This was followed by a formal welcome to the Ambassador of Cuba and other invited guests. The programme also featured discussions on Fidel Castro’s revolutionary life, his political ideology, and his significant role in the history of Cuba.
Addressing the gathering, the speakers said that Fidel Castro was not only a revolutionary leader of Cuba but also a highly influential figure in international politics. The political and social changes he initiated through the Cuban Revolution had a lasting impact on world politics. His leadership, anti-imperialist stance, and struggle for establishing the rights of ordinary people continue to be widely discussed in political and social circles even.
The programme also highlighted the long-standing friendly relations between India and Cuba. The speakers noted that such programmes play an important role in further strengthening mutual goodwill and friendship between the people of the two countries.
The presence of Cuban Ambassador Juan Carlos Marsán Aguilera generated considerable interest among Sabroom’s political and cultural circles. A significant number of local residents, political workers, and supporters attended the programme to see the Ambassador in person and listen to his address.
The programme organized to mark the birth centenary of Fidel Castro highlighted various aspects of his life and struggle, while also recalling the historic and friendly relations between India and Cuba. Through the event, tribute was paid in Sabroom to the memory and legacy of Fidel Castro.
