Teacher Shortage Leaves Kalachhara Higher Secondary School In Distress.

Dharmanagar, Tripura, 25th of August, 2026 : Concern is growing among parents and local residents over the acute shortage of teachers at PM Shri Kalachhara Higher Secondary School under the Bagbassa Assembly constituency in North Tripura district. Once known for its tradition and reputation, the school is now struggling to maintain regular academic activities due to inadequate teaching staff.

The problem is particularly severe in the primary section. Only two teachers are currently responsible for 78 children in the foundational class and around 220 other primary-level students. Three mothers are assisting them, but parents allege that the available staff is grossly inadequate for such a large number of students.In the higher and higher secondary sections, more than 600 students in the Arts and Science streams were allotted 17 teachers. Of these, one has been transferred and two have been assigned to duties in other government departments. As a result, classes were being managed with 14 teachers. The situation has worsened after seven more teachers were assigned to census-related duties.

It is now reported that only seven teachers are left to handle classes for more than 600 students. Regular classes in several subjects are being disrupted due to the shortage of teachers for key subjects. In addition, administrative responsibilities and supervision of the Mid-Day Meal scheme have placed further pressure on the existing staff.Angry parents have demanded immediate steps to address the crisis. They questioned how the quality of education can be maintained at a reputed school without adequate teachers. Local residents fear that unless teachers are appointed and alternative arrangements are made immediately, the school’s academic system could face an even deeper crisis.
