Teliamura, Tripura, 15th of September, 2026 : Residents of the Haora River basin had been struggling with the devastating effects of riverbank erosion and seasonal flooding for a long time. During the monsoon, rising water levels often threatened homes on both sides of the river and caused considerable damage to local shops and businesses. The recurring situation had become a major source of anxiety for people living in the area. With measures now being taken to strengthen the riverbank, locals are hopeful that their long-standing difficulties will finally come to an end.

A major step has recently been taken to protect the area from recurring riverbank erosion, with construction of a permanent boulder embankment now underway. To ensure that the work can proceed efficiently, the river channel has been temporarily diverted. The intervention has considerably reduced the risks faced by people living and conducting business along both banks. The ongoing work has therefore brought a sense of relief among local residents, who are hopeful of a permanent solution to the problem.

Residents and local traders have thanked the state government for taking a timely and effective step to address the long-standing problem of riverbank erosion. They believe that the project will not only strengthen the vulnerable riverbanks but also provide permanent security to homes, shops and businesses located in the surrounding areas.
