Nine-Year-Old Child Allegedly Sexually Assaulted in Khowai, Local Youth Detained.

Khowai, Tripura, 20th of September, 2026 : An allegation of sexual assault involving a nine-year-old child has surfaced in the Baijalbari area under Khowai. A local youth has been accused in connection with the incident, which reportedly occurred on the 17th of the current month. Following the complaint, police have taken up the matter for investigation.

According to Khowai Women’s Police Station OC Mina Debbarma, the child was allegedly taken to a deserted house and an adjoining forest area in the locality. The alleged sexual assault reportedly took place there, following which the child informed her family about the incident.

After the incident from the child, the family members promptly approached the police. Subsequently, a case was registered at Khowai Women’s Police Station based on their written complaint.

OC Meena Debbarma said that after taking up the case, the police launched an investigation and registered a case under various sections based on the allegations. The accused youth was subsequently detained and produced before the court, she added.

The incident has reportedly caused concern among various sections of society in Khowai. Local citizens have called for parents and guardians to remain alert and take necessary precautions to ensure the safety of children. At the same time, they highlighted the need for collective action by the administration, families, and society to strengthen child protection measures.
