Protest By SFI-DYFI Against Police Action On TET Qualifiers, Demanding Gyanesh Kumar’s Resignation.

Dharmanagar, Tripura, 26th of September, 2026 : The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) organized a protest march in Dharmanagar on Saturday over the revision of electoral rolls, the role of the Election Commission, and allegations of police action against unemployed protesters.

The protest march, organized by the Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Committees of the two organizations, passed through various parts of the town. The protesters also demanded the resignation of Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.The protesters alleged that around 1.3 million voters across the country had been removed from the electoral rolls through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). They said that the right to vote is a constitutional right of citizens. They demanded transparency in the revision of electoral rolls and an impartial investigation into allegations surrounding the process of deletion of names.

Amidst the distinguished participants there were DYFI Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Secretary Arjun Nath, President Jasim Uddin, SFI Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Secretary Amarjit Deb, President Salman Khan, and several other members of the student and youth organizations.Speaking after the march, DYFI Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Secretary Arjun Nath said that questions raised over the neutrality and transparency of the Election Commission must be answered before the people of the country. He called for an impartial investigation into any allegations of irregularities concerning voting rights and demanded that responsibility be fixed. He also said that the movement demanding Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation would be intensified.The protesters also expressed anger over allegations of police action against unemployed TET- qualified candidates who were demonstrating in Agartala.

The organizations alleged that on Thursday, police used batons and force against TET-qualified candidates who were protesting in front of the Education Bhavan, demanding jobs. They also alleged that several state-level leaders of student and youth organizations were arrested during the protest and subjected to police assault.Protesting these incidents, the demonstrators said that the use of police force against movements demanding employment and the protection of democratic rights was unacceptable.The protest march called for strengthening the movement to protect voting rights, employment opportunities, and the right to protest democratically. The student and youth organizations said that they would continue their movement around these demands in the coming days.
