Government Implementing Various Programmes To Make People More Aware About Road Safety To Prevent Loss Of Lives: Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury.

Agartala, Tripura, 1st of October, 2026 : The State Government will now confer the State Road Safety Excellence Award-2026 to encourage efforts towards preventing road accidents. Hon’ble Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury made this announcement at the meeting of the State Road Safety Council 2026, held at the Video Conference Hall of the Secretariat on Wednesday (30th September, 2026). He said that the Road Safety Excellence Awards will be presented in 11 categories based on outstanding work. The 11 categories are, Best District in Road Safety, Best District in Enforcement of Traffic Laws, Best District in Reduction of Road Accident Fatalities, Best Police Station in Road Safety, Best Hospital/Trauma Care Centre in Road Safety, Best Ambulance Service, Best Road Engineering Initiative, Best Fire Service, Best Accident Investigation, Best Good Samaritan (Rah-Veer), and Best Functional Initiative by the Transport Department.

The transport minister said that the Government is giving serious importance to road safety issues in order to prevent road accidents. The concerned departments have been instructed to work more actively in accordance with road safety guidelines to reduce road accidents. He said that with everyone’s cooperation, the Government is implementing various programmes to make people more aware of road safety and prevent loss of life.

At today’s State Road Safety Council 2026 meeting, Transport Commissioner Subrata Chowdhury briefed the transport minister about various measures taken for road safety and other activities of the Transport Department. District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police from all districts participated in the meeting virtually. The meeting was also attended by Kiran Gitte, Secretary of the PWD and Health Departments; Prashant Kumar Goyal, Secretary of the Finance Department; Animesh Debbarma, Secretary of the Higher Education Department; Kanta Jangir, SP, Traffic, West Tripura District, along with other senior officials.
