Mumbai is Set to Witness a New and Unprecedented Chapter in Ramleela

Carrying forward the tradition of Ramleela since 1964, Shree Adarsh Ramleela Samiti, Mumbai is presenting its Girgaon Chowpatty Ramleela this year in a completely new, grand and unprecedented format.

According to the Samiti, Mumbai is set to witness a new chapter in the history of Ramleela. The scale, grandeur and contemporary theatrical format envisioned for this year’s presentation is unlike anything the Samiti has previously presented in the city.

While preserving the sanctity, devotion and traditional spirit of Ram Katha, the theatrical presentation is being created on an expansive scale. The Ramleela production by Divinity Productions will feature more than 50 artistes, a massive 64-ft HD LED visual backdrop, advanced lighting and sound, specially designed traditional costumes, elaborate sets, music and contemporary visual storytelling.

At the same time, the approximately 1,500-seat covered auditorium and the overall Festival—including its infrastructure, religious ceremonies, cultural activities, audience facilities and associated experiences—is being organised and managed by Shree Adarsh Ramleela Samiti, Mumbai.

Beyond Ramleela — A Ten-Day Celebration of Devotion, Culture and Experiences

This year, the initiative goes beyond the theatrical presentation of Ramleela to create a broader spiritual and cultural festival experience at Girgaon Chowpatty.

Along with the ten-day Ramleela, the Festival will feature Sarayu Aarti and Maha Aarti, 3D Ram Darshan, VR Dham Darshan, Ramayan Wisdom Gallery, Bhajan Jamming, spiritual conversations, Ramayan Samvad, and various cultural and spiritual experiences for children and families.

The Samiti’s larger objective is not merely to present a grand event, but to preserve Ramleela as a living cultural heritage, encourage the artistes, musicians and traditional craftsmen associated with it, and connect younger generations with the ideals of Shri Ram, Ram Katha and India’s cultural heritage.

With the Bhoomi Pujan, the Samiti formally commenced preparations for this ambitious Festival and reaffirmed its vision:

> “Ramleela is not merely a theatrical performance; it is our living cultural heritage. This year, our endeavour is to bring together the timeless tradition and devotion of Ram Katha with the scale and craft of contemporary theatre, creating an experience that establishes a new identity for Ramleela in Mumbai.”
