Ampinagar, Tripura, 15th of October, 2026 : Ganga Fishery Producer Group (PG), located in Ampinagar under Ompi RD Block of Gomati district, is emerging as an encouraging example of community-based livelihood development under the Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP), a World Bank-funded project implemented by the Tribal Welfare Department, Government of Tripura. Formed on 18 December 2023, the group comprises 24 members and aims to strengthen livelihood opportunities through fishery-related activities. Under TRESP, the group received ₹50,000 as establishment support and ₹6 lakh as working capital on 20 March 2026 to support its activities.
To enhance the technical knowledge and skills of its members, Ganga PG participated in three days of thematic training on fish farming from 10 to 12 June 2026. Farm visits and practical demonstrations were also conducted, and equipment such as a plankton net and pH indicators was provided to support fishery-related activities. These interventions are intended to improve technical capacity and encourage the adoption of appropriate fish farming practices.

A notable highlight is the progress of three nursery members — Mithu Rani Das, Sankari Das and Kanak Deb — who each took an individual loan of ₹20,000 and contributed ₹15,000 from their own resources to initiate livelihood activities. According to the reported figures, Mithu Rani Das generated an income of ₹1,50,000 with a profit of ₹1,15,000, Sankari Das generated ₹1,00,000 with a profit of ₹65,000, and Kanak Deb earned ₹1,02,000 with a profit of ₹82,000. Together, the three members reported a combined income of ₹3,52,000 and a total profit of ₹2,62,000. Their achievements demonstrate the potential of financial assistance and individual initiative to create income-generating opportunities at the grassroots level.

The loan recovery process of Ganga PG has also commenced, with one EMI reported. The progress of the group reflects TRESP’s efforts to promote sustainable livelihoods through financial support, capacity building and access to technical resources. With continued technical guidance and effective management of group resources, Ganga PG has the potential to strengthen its livelihood activities, improve household incomes and contribute to rural economic development in Ompi RD Block.
