Khowai, Tripura, 19th of October, 2026 : The locality under Madhya Ganaki Gram Panchayat in Khowai has been plunged into mourning following the recovery of a man’s hanging body from his residence near the Tapur Tupur Anganwadi Centre in Tablabari. The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the neighbourhood.
The deceased has been identified as Munda Tanti, also known as Khokan (45), son of Surendra Tanti. His hanging body was recovered from his house on Monday morning.
According to local sources, around one and a half years ago, his wife allegedly left the family home with another man, leaving behind their two daughters. Since then, Munda Tanti had been living at home with his two daughters. Local residents claimed that he had been emotionally distressed ever since his wife left. They also said that he had rarely been seen outside his house for a long time.
It is learnt that his two daughters had gone to their maternal uncle’s house the previous day. On Monday morning, local residents became suspicious when they noticed that the door of his room had remained closed for a long time. After repeated calls went unanswered, they looked through a window and found Munda Tanti hanging inside the room.
As information about the incident reached local residents, it created a stir in the area. The deceased’s close relatives broke down in tears. Some local residents believe that the family circumstances and his wife’s departure may have left him emotionally distressed. However, the exact circumstances surrounding his death will become clear only after an investigation.
The incident has cast a pall of grief over the entire locality.
