Teliamura, Tripura, 9th of December, 2024 : The two-day state-level Dhamail Utsav and Fair began from 8th December at the Chitrangada Kalakshetra in Teliamura. Organized by the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs in collaboration with the Khowai Zilla Parishad and the PWD and Rural Development, the event celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the state, particularly the iconic Dhamail dance. The festival was inaugurated by Chief Whip, MLA Kalyani Saha Roy, who emphasized the government’s commitment to preserving and promoting the diverse cultural traditions of Tripura, especially those that are on the brink of extinction. Highlighting the historical significance of the Dhamail dance, she remarked, “This dance, performed during auspicious occasions, symbolizes the cultural unity and heritage of our state”. The event was presided over by Debashis Nath Sharma, Chairperson of the Khowai Municipality, while Bimbisar Bhattacharya, Director of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, delivered the welcome address.

Several prominent personalities graced the occasion, including MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury, State Cultural Advisory Committee Vice Chairman Subrata Chakraborty, Teliamura Municipal Council Vice Chairperson Madhusudhan Roy, and Khowai District Magistrate Chandni Chandran. Teliamura Sub-Division Additional SDMApoorba Chakraborty, deputy director of District Information and Cultural Affairs office Dilip Kumar Debbarma and others were present. The festival saw participation from 50 teams across different districts. Other highlights included drawing competitions and Kabi Sanmelan. 50 stalls of various self-help groups have been opened in the premises of Chitrangada Kalakshetra.
