Nagpur, 24th of July 2025 : Indian Institute of Management Nagpur hosted Viksit Bharat 2047: Global Perspective Conference, a thought leadership summit aimed at advancing India’s global growth narrative. The event brought together international trade leaders, industry experts, and academic luminaries to discuss the evolving skill needs, talent mobility, and global partnerships that will shape India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2047.

The event was inaugurated by Prof. BhimarayaMetri,Director of IIM Nagpur, who emphasized the importance of skilling, innovation, and international collaboration in realizing India’s Viksit Bharat vision. He highlighted IIM Nagpur’s contributions to national initiatives such as the Government of Maharashtra’s TUCS project and plans to introduce foreign language coursesincluding Japanese, Korean, and Spanishto equip students for global careers. “From Nagpur to India, and from India to the world,” he remarked, envisioning Nagpur as a hub for exports, global talent, and international investments.
Chief Guest Shri Ajay Sancheti, former Member of Parliament and industrialist, praised India’s rapid progress and the growing relevance of international partnerships. Recalling his early career experiences in Singapore, he noted how India has transformed into a global growth engine. He urged students to think beyond urban development and contribute to inclusive national growth. Applauding IIM Nagpur’s global placements and rising reputation, he expressed confidence in the institute’s role in shaping future leaders.

Mr. Takashi Suzuki, Chief Director General, JETRO, highlighted Indo-Japanese synergies and underlined the importance of connecting Japanese MSMEs with Indian talent, especially in emerging cities like Nagpur. He recognized IIM Nagpur as a potential gateway for fostering collaborations between the two nations in areas such as management, manufacturing, and skill development. Emphasizing that 99% of Japanese businesses are MSMEs, he advocated for deeper engagement and greater visibility of Nagpur within Japanese business networks. He also emphasized that students from institutions like IIM Nagpur can play a crucial role by utilizing their capabilities to support and accelerate the future growth of Japanese companies.
Mr. Vik Singh, Australian Trade & Investment Commissioner, presented a strategic view of the India-Australia partnership. He outlined key collaboration areas such as agribusiness, green economy, and advanced manufacturing. Stressing co-creation over competition, he stated, “The goal is Australia and India partnering to serve the world.” Mr. Singh also encouraged Indian students to explore Australia’s TAFE skilling system and praised IIM Nagpur’s global outlook and talent potential.

Mr. Mussarat, HR Head at Suzuki R&D and former DPIIT official, emphasized India’s growing stature in global manufacturing. Sharing his insights from the automotive and policy sectors, he highlighted that India leads the world in tractor production and is rapidly advancing in passenger vehicles. He pointed out the immense untapped potential of the Indian market and called education and human capital the country’s biggest strength. Commending institutions like IIM Nagpur, he praised their role in nurturing globally relevant talent for R&D and Global Capability Centers.
Mr. Sukant Mishra (MD – Octagon International – UAE) announced two global placements in Dubai for students of the MBA batch 2024-2026 at IIM Nagpur. He also shared plans to hire students from the 2025-2027 batch for summer internships.
The event featured four high-impact panel sessions focused on the future of work, global skilling, and regional employment needs. The Japan session, moderated by Prof. Rahul Sett, explored talent requirements and MSME collaboration with insights from Mr. Takashi Suzuki (JETRO), Mr. Siddhanti Sagar (University of Tokyo), Mr. Gopal (HR Head-HORIBA India), and Mr. Mussarat (Suzuki R&D). The Asia-Pacific session moderated by Prof. DevashishRath included Mr. Vik Singh, Mr. Atul Garg (CEO -SingX, Singapore), Dr. Deepika Deshpande (COO – SingX, Singapore), and Mr. AsimAfsar (Hansgrohe Group). The Europe & America session moderated by Prof. Ankita Dash featured Mr. Rohit Purandare (DGM – Mercedes-Benz R&D) and Mr. Sachin Deshmukh (CEO & MD – Softdel USA). The UAE session moderated by Prof. Deepaghrah welcomed insights from Mr. Sumit Jain (CEO – Valency International) and Mr. Sukant Mishra (MD – Octagon International – UAE).

Also present at the event were Prof. Prashant Gupta (Dean – Faculty & Academics), Prof. Alok Kumar Singh (Dean – Executive Education), Prof. Shailendra Nigam (Chairperson – CDS Committee), and Dr. Rahul Chaturvedi (In-charge – Career Development Services Office). Their active involvement reinforced IIM Nagpur’s commitment to bridging global talent needs with future-ready education.
