Increasing Farmers’ Income Is The Goal Of The State Government : Agriculture Minister.

Agartala, Tripura, 1st of August 2025 : Increasing the income of farmers is a key goal of the current state government. Different initiatives have been undertaken to achieve this. Farmers are our food providers, and the progress of the state and the country depends on their well-being. Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath emphasized this on 31 July, 2025 while inaugurating the planting of hybrid paddy using SRI method at Nandalal Das Para under Ishanpur Panchayat of Mohanpur RD Block Agriculture Minister said that ever since Narendra Modi assumed the role of Prime Minister, special attention has been given to the upliftment of farmers. Several initiatives have been implemented for the welfare of farmers. Currently, India ranks second in the world in rice production and is number one in rice export. He added that in Tripura as well, multiple steps are being taken for farmers.Presenting data on paddy cultivation, the

Agriculture Minister stated that paddy is cultivated annually on 15 lakh kani of land in the state. Out of this, $7,000 kaniland is used for cultivating Aush paddy, 9 lakh 18 thousand kani for Aman paddy, and 3 lakh 94 thousand kani for Boro paddy. In addition, 85,000 kani of land is used for jhumcultivation. He further mentioned that out of the 58 blocks in the state; 30 blocks are currently self-sufficient in food production. Among the 8 districts, 3 are self-sufficient in food. To boost rice production in the state, special emphasis is being placed on SRI method of paddy cultivation. Farmers adopting the SRI method can produce 80 kg more rice per kani. The Agriculture Minister has urged farmers to adopt this method enthusiastically.

Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath personally participated in the rice planting program. Others who took part in the event and planted paddy seedlings include Mohanpur Panchayat Samiti ChairmanRakesh Deb Vice Chairman, Sanjib Kumar Das, Mohanpur Municipal Council Vice Chairperson Shankar Deb, and Director of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department Dr. Phanibhushan Jamatia, among others.
