Agartala, Tripura, 3rd of August, 2025 : A significant milestone was achieved at Bir Bikram Memorial (BBM) College with the grand inauguration of the Sampurna Canteen, an initiative under the Tripura Urban Livelihood Mission (TULM), aimed at enhancing urban community welfare and supporting self-help groups (SHGs).

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Mr. Sukhomoy Saha, Zonal Chairperson of the East Zone, Agartala Municipal Corporation, as the Chief Guest and inaugurator. Mr. Santanu Bikash Das, Nodal Officer of TULM, AMC, and Mr. Sudip Ghosh, City Mission Manager, TULM, Agartala Municipal Corporation, attended the event as Guests of Honour. The occasion witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, students and members of the Alloran self-help group.
In the welcome address, Dr. Dipankar Das, Convenor of the Canteen Committee of BBM College, outlined the vision behind the establishment of the canteen. He emphasized its significance, especially for students and faculty members residing in Agartala without their families. “For many students living in rented accommodations, preparing meals in the morning is often a challenge. This canteen will serve as a valuable support system for them,” he remarked

Mr. Santanu Bikash Das and Mr. Sudip Ghosh delivered motivational speeches, elaborating on the objectives of the Tripura Urban Livelihood Mission. They shared how the mission is dedicated to empowering SHGs by offering sustainable livelihood opportunities, fostering financial independence and creating platforms for entrepreneurial growth such as this canteen initiative
The Chief Guest, Mr. Sukhomoy Saha, praised the endeavor and reminded e gryone of the importance of maintaining food quality, hygiene, and cleanliness in the canteen to ensure it effectively serves the college community.

Mrs. Mrinal Dasgupta, Principal-in-Charge of BBM College, expressed her appreciation for the initiative and reflected on the canteen’s role in nurturing a healthier and more vibrant campus environment. “A good canteen is not just a place for food, it becomes a social hub that contributes to the overall well-being of students and staff,” she noted.
The inauguration ceremony concluded with a delightful cultural program performed by the students of BBM College, adding warmth and joy to the occasion. Following the performances, the dignitaries jointly inaugurated the Sampurna Canteen within the college premises, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the college’s infrastructural and community development journey.

Now officially open, the Sampurna Canteen aims to serve nutritious, affordable meals and stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts of the Tripura Urban Livelihood Mission, Agartala Municipal Corporation and Bir Bikram Memorial College in promoting student welfare and empowering self-help groups.
