Teliamura, Tripura, 9th of August 2025 : Muddy conditions at Teliamura wholesale vegetable market, farmers’ protests turn into a chaotic market day on Friday (8th August, 2025).

Incessant rains have created a muddy situation at the Teliamura wholesale vegetable market. The construction of the newly constructed market shed and the long-standing blockage of the market drains have left the market premises in a State of utter disrepair. As a result, both the sellers and buyers are having to spend their days in a State of constant misery in the muddy conditions at the place where farmers sell their vegetables. Today during the weekly market, the agricultural product sellers who came to the market collectively protested against this pitiful situation. They alleged that no effective action was taken despite informing the authorities about the matter for a long time. The aggrieved farmers locked the office of the Agriculture Department located in the market in protest.

Upon receiving the information, the police of Teliamura police station and officials of the Agriculture Department quickly reached the spot. Although efforts were made to bring the situation under control, the farmers claimed that their protest would continue until a permanent solution to the problem was taken. However, after their protest continued for a long time, the situation was brought under control after receiving administrative assurances.

Local farmers demand that the drains be cleaned immediately to remove the muddy and dirty water from the market area, and that the construction of the market shed be completed as soon as possible so that such suffering does not occur again during the rainy season. The anger of the farmers over this incident is clear, and their demand from the administration is that not only projects be implemented on paper, but also quick action be taken in reality.
