Celebration Of 117th Birth Anniversary Of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur Debbarman At RS Bhavan, Agartala.

Agartala, Tripura, 19th of August, 2025 : With the initiative of Information & Cultural Affairs Department Government of Tripura State Level celebrated the 117th birth anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur Debbarman has been conducted at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan, Agartala, Tripura on Tuesday (19th August, 2025).

In the presence of many distinguished dignitaries Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. The Chief Minister and other guests paid floral tributes to Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur Debbarman on his birth anniversary.

Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha presented awarded this year’s Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur Memorial Award-2024 (Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur Smriti Puraskar- 2025) to prominent educationist and cultural figure Sachin Kalai. He was given a memento, certificate and a check of 1 lakh as the award.

Addressing at the 117th birth anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said that, the last king of the Manikya dynasty, Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, was a true visionary. His visionary thinking led to unprecedented progress in the State’s education, health, communication system, market, banking services and more. His overall thinking was focused on the welfare of the State and its people.

“Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur had taken up various plans for the welfare of the State and its people during his short life. He started a huge work for the development of the state by utilizing his experience of traveling abroad. Although he was a follower of Hinduism, he was respectful of all religions. His role in the development of the State’s higher education infrastructure is undeniable. The Chief Minister said that the current Government has also taken up the overall development of the state by following the Maharaja’s thoughts.”, Chief Minister added.

Chief Minister Dr. Saha stated that during the previous State Governments, proper respect was not shown to the kings of Tripura. During the tenure of the current Government, the only airport in the state has been named after Maharaja Bir Bikram. His birth anniversary, August 19, has been declared a public holiday.

At the event the Chief Minister said that on his birthday, it is not enough to just pay homage to the Maharaja by garlanding his portrait, but to inform the present generation about his ideals and thoughts. During the partition, he generously provided food and shelter to countless people who came from East Bengal. Through which the character of the Maharaja’s human values emerges. The last four kings of the Manikya dynasty had a special relationship with the poet Rabindranath Tagore. It was Maharaja Bir Bikram who awarded the poet the title of Bharat Bhaskar.

Highlighting the occasion, Chief Minister Dr. Saha remarked that the current Government wants to take the development of the state forward by preserving and carrying the old culture and heritage of the state. Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas Sabka Vishwas Sabka Prayas. are not just slogans, but also express the sense of responsibility of the central and state governments towards the common people. India has been attacked by foreign powers many times. Despite this, the culture, heritage and traditions of this country still exist today. Which is our pride as Indians. The Chief Minister also added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken an unprecedented program through the Har Ghar Tiranga program to make the current generation aware of the lives and philosophies of the great people who sacrificed their lives for the independence of the motherland and are currently protecting it. Because it is never possible to take the country forward by ignoring the sacrifices of the brave martyrs. The Chief Minister said that all religions, castes, races and tribes are the children of this country. It is possible to build a great country through the overall efforts of everyone.

Addressing at the 117th birth anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, Hon’ble Cooperation, Tribal Welfare (TRP & PTG), Welfare Minister Sukla Charan Noatia said that the current Government is showing real respect to the kings. The people of the State still respect the state and the royal family.

Amidst the distinguished dignitaries participants there were Secretary of Information & Cultural Affairs Dr. Pradip Kumar Chakraborty, Hon’ble MP Kriti Singh Debbarma, Hon’ble Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and MLA Dipak Majumder, Tripura State Cultural Advisory Committee Vice Chairman Subrata Chakraborty, Director of Information and Cultural Affairs Department Bimbisar Bhattacharjee and many other distinguished dignitaries were present in the event.
