Agartala, Tripura, 28th of August, 2025 : Doctors must carry out their duties with utmost dedication while serving the public. Only then can the people’s trust in the state’s healthcare system be strengthened. To maintain a healthy atmosphere in hospitals, both doctors and patients families must adhere to their responsibilities. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said this while inaugurating the 20th Foundation Day celebration of Tripura Medical College and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Teaching Hospital at Vivekananda Auditorium, Hapania, Agartala on Wednesday (27th August, 2025). Prior to the program at the Vivekananda Auditorium, the Chief Minister inaugurated the renovation of the college playground and a new gallery. He also laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Trauma Care Center (G+4) and a residential building (G+13). On the occasion of the Foundation Day, a blood donation camp was also organized

While addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha praised the transparency maintained by Tripura Medical College and stressed the importance of ensuring such transparency in other health institutions of the state as well. He said the medical profession is a noble profession, and to uphold its dignity, doctors must treat patients with a sense of responsibility. At present, science and technology are witnessing unprecedented advancements, which must be used for human welfare. By utilizing systems like Artificial Intelligence, healthcare services can be taken to new heights, but for that, doctors also need to enhance their skills. The Chief Minister further mentioned that currently there are 400 MBBS seats in the state. A request has also been made to increase the number of MBBS seats in Tripura Medical College from 100 to 150. He also advised the hospital authorities to take initiatives for better publicity of their activities.

Speaking on the occasion, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte stated that the state spends 3% of its GDP on health infrastructure, which is much higher compared to several large states in the country. He also said that Tripura is witnessing the highest commercial investment in the healthcare sector. Plans are also underway to establish another medical college in a tribal area to further strengthen healthcare facilities.

Other speakers at the event included Dr. Promathesh Roy, Chairman of the Society for Tripura Medical College; Chief Executive Officer Swapan Saha; Prof. (Dr.) Arindam Datta, Principal of Tripura Medical College; and Prof. (Dr.) A.K. Chakma, Secretary of the Foundation Day Celebration Committee. On this occasion, meritorious students in different examinations and winners of sports competitions were felicitated by the Chief Minister along with other guests. Former teachers, students, doctors, faculty members, and employees of the college also attended the celebration.
