Sabroom, Tripura, 30th of August, 2025 : National Sports Day is India’s annual sporting observance, celebrated on August 29th to honor the legacy of Major Dhyan Chand the “Wizard of Hockey. The theme of Sports Day is “Sport to Promote Peaceful and Inclusive Societies”.
With the initiative of Youth Affairs and Sports Government of Tripura observed National Sports Day to marks on the legacy of Major Dhyan Chand at Sabroom Higher Secondary School ground on Thursday (28th August, 2025). Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) for Sabroom is Shibajyoti Dutta was as the chief guest at the event. The presents guests highlighted Major Dhyan Chand contribution to the history of Indian hockey. According to the address, it is possible to inspire the new generation towards sports by celebrating his birthday as National Sports Day. The guests paid homage to the Major Dhyan Chand.
On this day, students from various schools of the sub-division performed yoga, dance which fascinated the audience. A delightful cultural program was also organized. The convener of the program, Jimmy Debbarma, expressed his sincere gratitude to all the guests and participants present. Amidst the distinguished dignitaries there were Sabroom Nagar Panchayat Vice Chairperson Dipak Das, former Chairperson Shantipriya Bhowmik, School Inspector Jaranang Mog, social activist Tapas Lodh, Gautam Tripura and and many other dignitaries were present at the event.
